Asbestos Re-Inspection Surveys
As part of Grampian Housing Association's ongoing programme to improve compliance, transparency and property safety in line with legislative requirements we are about to commence on a programme of asbestos re-inspections across a number of our homes.
These inspections are essential to ensure that asbestos containing materials (ACMs) previously identified or presumed remain in a safe condition and are being effectively managed,
Why are these inspections taking place?
The purpose of the re-inspections is to:
- Confirm the current condition of known or presumed asbestos materials
- Re-inspection programmes are a legislative requirement
- Ensure information in our Asbestos Register is up to date
- Identify whether any action or remedial works are required
- Support our wider commitment to improved landlord compliance and tenant safety
It it important to stress that asbestos only presents a risk if it is damaged. Many public buildings including homes, schools and hospitals safely contain asbestos that is actively managed.
What will happen?
- Tenants in properties where we need to re-inspect will receive a letter from GHA explaining the inspection and identifying the specific areas to be re-inspected.
- Our appointed contractor, Environtec Ltd, will then contact tenants directly to arrange an appointment
- Inspections typically take no longer than 30 minutes
- Environtec Ltd will only access areas where asbestos is known or presumed
- Following the inspection GHA will contact tenants confirming the outcome and advising if any further action is required
If access is not provided, the inspection may progress to a formal gain access process in line with our procedures.
