How Does it Work?

Our digital lettings service operates differently from traditional waiting lists. Applicants are given greater choice and control in the process of finding accommodation by applying for properties that they want to live in. You can apply for a vacancy in three simple steps:

  1. Register on our system by completing a short form
  2. Check our weekly advertised vacancies at www.thesehomes.com
  3. Apply for the properties that you are interested in

A short list of interested applicants will then be used to determine the successful applicant, based on giving priority to the household that best matches the property type and also considering housing need.

You will only be contacted if we are considering you for the property you have applied for.

If you are homeless or threatened with homelessness, please also contact your local authority directly for advice and assistance.

If your application for a property has not been successful, you should continue to apply for properties that you are eligible for and interested in.  If you have a significant housing need, (for example are homeless, overcrowded or have a medical need) you may qualify for a priority pass, so you should ensure that all details you give at the time of applying are correct.

Other Housing Options

Due to the huge demand for rented social housing in Aberdeenshire and Moray, many people who apply for social housing may never receive an offer.  Therefore, we recommend that you consider all other available housing options to increase your chances of finding a home that suits you.

Register with Other Landlords

It is also advisable to register with other landlords to increase your chances of being housed.  For applicants in Aberdeen City Aberdeenshire and Moray, this can be done by applying with Aberdeen City CouncilAberdeenshire Council or Moray Council.

Mutual Exchange (Current Social Housing Tenants)

If you are a tenant of a local authority or Registered Social Landlord and have a Scottish Secure Tenancy you may also want to consider registering with House Exchange at www.houseexchange.org.uk.  This free online database advertises properties of tenants who want to move and who are willing to consider a mutual exchange with another tenant.  This gives you access to nationwide mutual exchanges.

Mid-Market Rent (Let's Choose)

Mid-market rent is a form of affordable housing with the private sector.

Typically tenants would pay rent at lower than the normal market rent levels within their local area, but rents would normally be higher than what a council or housing association tenant would expect to pay.
